Choosing a Walking Aid

Whether it's time to get a first walking aid or maybe upgrade or replace an existing rollator walker, Williams Bros. Healthcare has you covered. From inexpensive single point canes to our line of rolling walkers with handbrakes and a basket, we have plenty to choose from. Not sure whether to choose among the quad canes or rollators? The following brief overview should help get you on your way. Still not sure which one to choose? Give us a call at 1-800-264-0064 and our expert staff will help you out.

Canes - The entry-level member of the ambulatory aids family, canes come in various styles so there is something for everyone. Single point canes offer some stability, while quad canes will give more sturdy footing. Quad canes are a better choice if the walking aid is for long-term usage.

Crutches - Whether it's a broken leg or a lifelong disability, we have a variety of standard crutches to choose from. We have the most basic ones, including bariatric and forearm crutches. Just be sure to pay attention to the height restrictions when ordering.

Standard Folding Walkers- These are the no-frills models that Medicare pays for. All models fold, making them easy to get in and out of the car or store away in a closet. Most models also accommodate accessories such as wheels and brakes.

Rollators - These models are the top of the line and come in both three and four-wheeled models. In addition to locking hand brakes and baskets, most of these rollator walker models offer a seat that's convenient for resting when it is just too far to walk. This category also has rollator models that have pressure brakes if the user doesn't have the hand strength to operate the hand brakes. Throw in the choice of colors and you have the best walkers out there. Among the best in this category are Invacare, Guardian and our selection of Nova walkers.

Common Questions

Will Medicare pay for my walking aid?

Yes, if your diagnosis indicates that your purchase is medically necessary. Also please keep in mind that Medicare will not pay for a walking aid, such as a walker or cane, if they have already made payment on a manual or power wheelchair.  Please also note that the 4-wheeled walkers with seat and baskets are often paid at the lesser amount allowed for standard rolling walkers.

Is shipping free?

Yes, if your order is over $75 it will ship for free. (Orders over $75 always ship for free everyday at Williams Bros. Healthcare.)
